Vitamin E is essential for maintaining the integrity, function, and flexibility of cell membranes. Vitamin E is also an important fat soluble antioxidant. Fat soluble antioxidants help to prevent harmful substances, called free radicals, from attacking and damaging the cell membrane.

Vitamin E is actually a family of eight antioxidants, four tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta), and four tocotrienols (also alpha, beta, gamma, and delta). That Alpha-tocopherol is the form of Vitamin E that appears to have the greatest antioxidant potential, and is also the only form that meets the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for Vitamin E. The mixed natural tocopherols-beta, gamma and delta forms are also added for balance.
