Andrew Lessman’s Alpha Lipoic Acid 400 provides our highest levels of this essential protective compound. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) plays a multitude of indispensable roles throughout cellular chemistry and metabolism. It does so, in part, due to its unique ability to exist in both water and oil-based environments. This universal solubility results in ALA being able to deliver its powerful protective benefits throughout the entire body and why it is often referred to as the Universal Anti-Oxidant. ALA protects the tissues of our most vital organs, including our brain, where it readily crosses the blood-brain barrier. It also protects the vital tissues of our heart and cardiovascular system, as well as our liver, kidneys and lungs. ALA’s powerful protection allows it to “recharge” and extend the life of other anti-oxidants in the body, such as Vitamins C and E, and CoQ-10. In addition, ALA is essential to the creation of Glutathione – arguably the body’s most important internally produced protective molecule. Despite ALA’s vital role, our body only produces very small amounts and given its limited presence in our diet, supplements are the only logical means of overcoming the reduction in ALA levels that occurs with age, stress, illness, poor diet and lifestyle; and even exercise. As science has shown, the human body relies on both internal and external anti-oxidants for a lifetime of protection, and ALA is uniquely capable of playing both protective roles.
