Reading BCAA and Amino Acid Labels
What the leucine, isoleucine, and valine ratios on a BCAA label tell you, and how amino acid amounts are listed.
Branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) products list three amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Labels usually express the ratio between them, with 2:1:1 (leucine to isoleucine to valine) being the most common.
Each amino acid is listed by weight in milligrams or grams on the Supplement Facts panel. Leucine typically appears in the largest amount because it is the primary driver in many formulations.
Amino acids generally do not have an established percent Daily Value, so you will often see the amount listed with no %DV. Compare the total amino acid content per serving across products rather than relying on marketing claims.
